The superb walks in the near vicinity; the comfortable room and main lounge/bar area; the restaurant.
excellent hotel ,friendly staff close to ski fields and hiking tracks
Very professional staff that run an excellent hotel. This has been our most enjoyable hotel stay for several years. The atmosphere, food and location are superb. I could not fault it.
I liked evrything about it.
Liked the general atmosphere and iconic feel of the hotel. It was comfortable and civilised. The free transfers to and from the railway station took the stress out of getting there. The requirement for "dress shirts" for dinner in the restaurant was a puzzle - thought it must mean dinner jacket and black tie - but it seemed to just mean any old shirt with a collar on it, tie being optional.
Woulde have liked free internet, for convenience.
The spaciousness of the guest facilities and our room(It was an upgrade in the new wing) and the sense of old world style. Everyone of the staff treated us as welcome guests.
My wife and I have been coming to the Chateau for many years. We enjoy its old world charm and the warmth of its central lounge. We also enjoy going for walks around the chateau it is a beautiful environment. the chateau is one of our favourite homes away from home and we were very well looked after by the staff
We stayed here because it was very close to the start of the Tongariro Northern Circuit which we hiked for four days. It meant we did not need to get shuttle buses to the start of the track or again from the end. We were also able to leave our car in their car park for the four days at no extra cost.
Rooms were much more presentable than what appears in the photos on the website. The rooms were comfortable, and the common areas were lovely and had great views. The access to coin washers / dryers is also very handy for long-term travellers. Staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful.
The charge for Internet was very high. I think high-end hotels should consider Internet essential - and, if it's not available for free in the room, should at least provide access to a business centre at no charge.
The luxury of the chateau in a wilderness area.
The steps from reception to the foyer - only a few but with a heavy bag a ramp would have been more convenient.
A magnificent building with lovely ambience. The large fire in the gorgeous lounge was welcoming and the restaurant was second to none. Our room upgrade was a bonus.
The warm surroundings on a wet cold day, the piano playing.
A bit dated, and poor leisure facilities in the lounge, no board games, only one billiard table. Swimming pool in the dungeons. Outdoor parking, you get very wet when it is raining.
The facilities, possition, scienery, access and grandeau was wonderful. We enjoyed our stay immensly even though the we had rain the facilities were fabulous. We will return.
Snowed whilst we were there which added to the atmosphere.
It should be made clear on the booking info that premium rooms are not necessarily with mountain views.
relaxing in warm luxuary style
It is always very comfortable with a great fire and the restaurant meals were as usual very good indeed
Cost was relatively high-one night with a meal, no breakfast almost $400
